Automation can shape the future for the better.

There are many ideas of how the future would look like. New technologies such as AI, chat bots, robotics and automation are shaping how the future is turning out. So what happens when everything is automated? There are a few likely scenarios if this were to happen.

One possibility would be most of the work that are done today using human labor will likely be completed using robots or machines with a certain type of programmed embedded in them thus reducing the need for people in many jobs. As new technologies replaces people, this rapid technological change will destroy jobs while creating a demand for new ones such as managing robots, programming and even cyber security. As humans and organisations become more reliant on technologies to complete tasks and improve productivity, ensuring these technologies does not get hack into easily would definitely be one of the top priorities in any organisation.

Quality of life are likely to increase as well with the increase in automation. As businesses generate more value from its workers, countries are likely to thrive and benefit from the increase in business and economic activities. This increase in revenue can then be use to create new jobs. However, it is important that everyone are given the same opportunity to succeed in this new digital age. As technology is advancing so fast, it is also important that everyone are train so that no one is left behind. If the future automation is not proceed with caution, it can lead to an increase in the number of workers displacement and a larger gap of wealth inequality.

While automation has also helped to reduce the number of hours worked by workers such as in the manufacturing industry, there are some potential risks that technology might subjugate rather than serve mankind. Some of the risks includes that workers will be over-reliant on the use technology, privacy issues due to the large data networks available and how human error in management of technology might endanger civilization.

These risks aside, automation technology, if used wisely and carefully, can reap huge benefits. There is also an opportunity for ‘collective intelligence’, where human and machine intelligence work together, rather than automation on its own. The hope is that people will be able to utilize their uniquely “human” skills alongside technology to produce more in less time and for less money.
